Regenerate or demolish?
Every urban transformation starts with a crucial question: is it better to reuse what already exists, or to demolish and rebuild?
-

Housing as regional infrastructure
Housing is no longer a purely private matter: affordable, well-located homes attract people, businesses and investment.
-

Time is the real raw material of contemporary construction
A building completed late isn’t just a delay: it’s a lost opportunity.
-

An accessible city is a city that works
Urban accessibility is not a niche issue: it is a measure of how well a city works, for everyone.
Insights: perspectives on architecture, cities and real estate development
Rodighiero.Design Insights explore the issues that run through our work every day: real estate development, urban regeneration, the accessibility of public space, housing, construction processes, and the relationship between design, time and value. They are neither news nor site reports. They are reflections drawn from forty years of practice, trying to answer a recurring question: what makes a project capable of generating value over time?
Each piece starts from a concrete question, often the same one a company, an investor or a public authority asks at the start of a project. Is it better to reuse what already exists, or to demolish and rebuild? Why has housing become regional infrastructure, no different from a road or energy network? Why is time now the real raw material of contemporary construction? And what really makes a city accessible, beyond compliance with the rules? From there, the analysis widens to planning, economic, technical and operational aspects, in clear language but without oversimplifying.
They are written for people who have to make decisions. Each piece ends with a summary for those who invest in, transform and govern places, because the quality of a project depends on the quality of the choices behind it, and those choices have to be made long before construction starts.
We write these pieces for three reasons. The first is to share a method: understand, build, manage, integrate, endure. The second is to offer interpretive tools to those dealing with complex transformations, from disused industrial sites to new urban hubs, from production spaces to hospitality and contemporary living. The third is to take part in the debate on the future of our cities, particularly in the area between Mantua, Brescia, Verona and Lake Garda, where housing demand, industrial growth and land take call for new answers.
Insights grow over time and sit alongside our case studies: the case studies show completed projects, the insights explain the thinking that made them possible. If one of these topics concerns a site, a building or an investment you are considering, let’s talk.
